Like many of our projects, our Mount Baker clients not only needed additional room, but a complete overhaul of their existing spaces. We made major additions to the home, adding on a new kitchen and deck. The rest of the house had a top to bottom overhaul; the entire upper main floor structure was removed and replaced with posts and beams to design upper floor spaces with views of the Cascade Mountains and Lake Washington. An existing covered porch on the top level was converted into a master bedroom with Mount Rainier views. We stripped and re-stained all the existing woodwork in the home to match the historic stain, and matched all new woodwork to the existing. We custom skim-coated all the plaster in the home to give everything a fresh look. We also completely re-built the house’s existing hydronic heat system, but in keeping with the historic elements of the home we reclaimed antique radiators to match the existing pieces. Huber Architects strives to protect the environment through our projects – once finished, the Mount Baker home was awarded a Built Green 3-star rating.
